These terms are an agreement between you and Amgad Mohamed, an individual trading as Vylo, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates ("Vylo", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the Vylo mobile app — listed on the App Store as Vylo: MicroNutrient Tracker — and the website at vylo.health.
Please read them. By creating an account or using Vylo, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Vylo.
Contact: hello@vylo.health
This is the most important section in this document, so it comes first.
Vylo estimates calorie, macronutrient and micronutrient targets from information you provide, and records what you eat against them. It is a tracking and education tool, not a medical device and not a healthcare service.
Speak to a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, and particularly if any of the following apply to you:
Vylo makes no claim about allergens, intolerances or ingredients. Do not rely on Vylo to tell you what a food contains for the purpose of avoiding an allergen or an ingredient. Check the product itself.
You use Vylo at your own discretion and you remain responsible for your own health decisions.
You must be at least 13 years old. The app enforces this at sign-up.
If you are between 13 and 18, you should use Vylo only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and you should not use it to pursue weight loss without professional guidance.
An account is required. Vylo cannot be used without one. You can create an account with Sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password.
You agree to give accurate information about yourself. Vylo's targets are calculated from your age, sex, height, weight and activity level, so inaccurate details produce inaccurate targets.
The free plan has no time limit. Your calorie and macro plan, food logging and weight tracking are free to use for as long as you have an account, whether or not you ever subscribe.
Vylo Pro is a paid subscription that opens the rest of the app, priced at $7.99 per month or $54.99 per year in US dollars, or the equivalent in your local currency as set by Apple.
New subscribers may be offered a 3-day free trial of Vylo Pro, with full access to Pro features.
Vylo's photo scanning uses paid AI models that cost us real money per scan, so Pro carries a fair-use allowance rather than being unlimited:
We may adjust these allowances, and will tell you if we reduce them materially.
Everything about payment is handled by Apple, not by us:
If we change the price, existing subscribers keep the price they signed up at for as long as their subscription stays continuously active. If you cancel and later resubscribe, the current price applies. Apple will ask you to confirm any price increase before it takes effect.
Referral credit. Redeeming a valid referral code grants the new member 7 days of Pro, and grants the person whose code it is 14 days of Pro when the new member joins. Referral time from several referrals stacks. The referred trial carries a smaller AI allowance than a paid subscription.
Referral credit has no cash value, cannot be exchanged, transferred or refunded, and is not available to accounts that have subscribed before. We may withdraw, void or refuse referral credit where we reasonably believe it is being abused — for example accounts created in bulk, self-referral through additional accounts, or automated redemption — and we may change or end the referral programme for future referrals at any time. Credit already granted stays granted.
Do not:
You keep ownership of what you create in Vylo: your custom foods, saved meals, logs and feedback.
To run the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, process and display that content back to you. That licence exists so the app can function, and for nothing else.
One case works differently, and you should know about it. When you create a food by scanning a barcode, that food is submitted to Vylo's shared food database for review. If we accept it, it becomes available to other Vylo users as a general food entry. For those submissions you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use, adapt, publish and distribute the nutritional data as part of Vylo's food database, including after you delete your account.
Nutritional facts are data, not creative work, and this is how a shared food database gets built. Accepted submissions keep no link to you: your authorship pointer is cleared when you delete your account, and your name is never shown against a food.
We are not obliged to accept, keep or continue to display any submission.
If you send us a suggestion, feature request or other feedback, you agree we may use it freely, without obligation, payment or attribution to you. We are not obliged to act on it or keep it confidential. This does not give us any right to your personal data — only to the idea itself.
The Vylo app, its source code, design, brand, name, logo, written guidance, AI prompts, the composed dish recipes and the Gulf regional food set are owned by us and protected by copyright and other laws. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of them to you. You get a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use. That licence is subject to Apple's Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, and does not override them.
We do not claim ownership of the whole food database. It is assembled from several sources, and each keeps its own status:
| Source | Approximate rows | Status |
|---|---|---|
| USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy and Foundation Foods) | 1,430 | Public domain |
| Open Food Facts | 867 | Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0 |
| Vylo composed dishes and Gulf regional foods | 386 | Ours |
Data originating from Open Food Facts is © Open Food Facts contributors and is used under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0. It remains available under that licence, and nothing in these terms restricts your rights under it. The licence text is at opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/. Vylo credits these sources in the app, under Help → Food data sources.
Some Vylo features use third-party AI models:
Two things follow from that, and we would rather say them plainly than bury them:
AI output is an estimate and is sometimes wrong. A photo cannot show hidden oil, sauce, sugar or cooking method, and portion weights judged from an image are approximations. Check and correct what a scan produces before you rely on it. Do not use scanning to determine whether a food contains something you need to avoid.
Meal recommendations are not AI. They come from a fixed local library ranked against your nutrient gaps. They are suggestions based on numbers, not advice about you.
We may change, limit or withdraw AI features, and we apply usage allowances and rate limits to keep costs sustainable.
Barcode scanning is not AI, and it leaves Vylo. When you scan a barcode Vylo does not hold, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, an independent open database, to look the product up. Only the barcode is sent — nothing about you, your account or your logs. Open Food Facts is not operated by us and has its own terms and privacy practices.
Vylo is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will always be available, and we may change, suspend or withdraw features. Vylo depends on services we do not control, including Apple, our hosting provider and our AI providers.
Vylo currently runs on iOS only and is distributed only through Apple's App Store.
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app. Doing so permanently removes your plan and targets, your cloud backup, your usage records, entitlements, referral records, onboarding answers, feedback messages and any food submissions still awaiting review, and wipes the data held on your device. It cannot be undone.
Two things survive, and you should know before you delete: food entries you created that were reviewed and accepted into the shared database remain as general foods, with your authorship pointer cleared (see section 6); and records held by Apple, or in our hosting provider's server logs, follow their own retention and are outside our control.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel that separately through Apple, before deleting, or you may continue to be charged.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if your use threatens the integrity or security of the service or other users. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.
We may discontinue Vylo entirely. If we do, we will give reasonable notice through the app or by email so you have time to save anything you want to keep.
You can take your data with you at any time, without asking us. Personal → Account → Download my data produces a file containing everything Vylo holds about your account: your profile and targets, your complete food and weight history, your subscription and referral records, your AI usage records, your onboarding answers, your support messages and any foods you created. It is available to everyone, free and paid alike.
Separately, Pro subscribers can export a PDF report covering up to 28 days — that is a formatted report for reading or sharing, not a copy of your data.
If the download does not work for you, email hello@vylo.health and we will send your data within 30 days.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, and beyond the health disclaimers in section 1:
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Amgad Mohamed, trading as Vylo, from any claim, demand, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of Vylo, your violation of any law, or content you submit — including food data you submit to the shared database.
We may update these terms. When we make a material change we will tell you through an in-app notice or by email before it takes effect, and we will update the date at the top.
Continuing to use Vylo after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account.
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, and by the laws of the Emirate of Dubai where they apply.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of Vylo will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. There is no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver in these terms.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer laws in your country of residence.
Vylo is distributed through Apple's App Store, and Apple requires us to state the following:
We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by something beyond our reasonable control, including internet or network failures, outages at Apple, our hosting provider or our AI providers, changes in law, government action, natural events, or war. If such an event continues for a long period, either of us may end this agreement.
Send any legal notice to hello@vylo.health. We will contact you at the email address on your account, or by a notice inside the app; it is your responsibility to keep that address current.
These terms are written in English. If they are translated and the versions differ, the English version governs, except where the law of your country requires otherwise.
Ending your subscription, deleting your account, or termination by either of us does not switch off the sections that are meant to outlast the relationship. Sections 1 (not medical advice), 6 (content you create, including the perpetual licence for accepted food submissions), 7 (our content and third-party data), 11 (disclaimers), 12 (limitation of liability), 13 (indemnity), 15 (governing law and jurisdiction), 16 (Apple), 18 (notices and language) and this section continue to apply.
